RIADNE

Privacy.

Ariadne is built to keep your work on your device. This page states what the app and this site handle, what leaves the phone, and what never does. It applies to the Ariadne app for iPhone and to jakescottstudio.com.

The short version

Ariadne has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and uses no third-party software kits. Nothing you shoot, scan or set up is uploaded. The app makes one network request: naming the place where a capture was taken, described below. This site sets no cookies.

Camera

The camera feeds the live viewfinder and AR tracking, processed on the device. Nothing is recorded until you press the shutter. Captures are stored in the app's own library, in your photo library if you choose, or both.

Location

With your permission, the app reads your location while it is open and uses it on the device to compute the sun's position. A capture records the coordinates where it was taken in its metadata, so the frame can state where it was shot. That metadata stays on the device with the capture, and travels only when you share or export the capture yourself.

Place names

After a capture, the app asks Apple's geocoding service to turn the capture's coordinates into a short place name, such as a street, for the capture's label and filename. This is the app's only network request. It is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; Ariadne operates no servers of its own and receives nothing.

Photos

Saving captures uses add-only access to your photo library. Choosing a photograph as a backdrop image reads the one file you pick. If you grant read access, it is used for one thing: checking whether captures the app saved are still in your photo library, so the gallery's In Photos labels stay truthful. Ariadne never reads, changes or deletes anything else in your library.

Scans

Actor scans are three-dimensional captures of real people. They are stored on the device, are never uploaded, and are removed when you delete them or the app. You are responsible for the consent of the people you scan.

Microphone

The microphone is used only when Record Audio is turned on in the app's settings, and only for the length of a take. The sound is written into the take on the device. Record Audio is off by default, and takes are silent until you turn it on.

Deletion

Deleting a capture or scan in the app removes it from the device. Deleting the app removes everything the app stores. Captures you saved to Photos remain in Photos, under your control.

This site

This site is static files. No cookies, no analytics, no trackers, and no third-party scripts, fonts or embeds. The sun drawn on the homepage is computed in your browser from your device's timezone; nothing is transmitted. Hosting is by GitHub Pages, which may log standard request data such as IP addresses; see the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Email

If you email the studio, the correspondence is kept for as long as it is needed to answer you and for the studio's records, and is shared with no one.

Changes

This page changes only when the app or the site changes what it handles. Revised 4 September 2026.
